Cruise Ship Review - Eclipse Celebrity Cruises

I am writing this review, while in my flight back to U.S. after spending the last two weeks (14 nights) aboard Celebrity Eclipse. Launched in April 2010, he joined the family of award-winning Eclipse-Celebrity "Solstice class ships, which now includes the Celebrity Solstice, Equinox, and in 2011, a figure well. So while I will try to maintain objectivity, I must admit that I got into the Eclipse with great expectations. Fortunately, with some minor exceptions (as noted below), I was not disappointed.

The "hardware"

In considering the physical attributes of a cruise ship (ie, layout and appearance), industry professionals often refer to the spacecraft hardware. So let's start there.

At 122,000 tons (the largest fleet Celebrity), the Eclipse was surprisingly easy to get around, and even if the full capacity of 2,850 passengers (double occupancy), the ship never felt crowded. To be honest, the first impression of the interior design was that it was a little 'ordinary', but as the days passed the boat, I have come to appreciate more and more. Consistent with the celebrity status of the line's premium cruise (as opposed to "mass market" or "luxury"), the look and feel of Eclipse is what I would call "simple elegance. Contrary to the" Glitter cheap "or" pretentious abundance "of some other ships I've seen the inside Eclipse seemed deliberately undervalued its designers, so that your guests (including myself) would feel comfortable living in their luxury home at sea.

Colors in the lobby was sweet and light, while other public spaces and lounges (including Michael's Club and winemakers) shone in a deep voice with natural wood furnishings and luxurious plush carpet .

Stairs and hallways wide enough side by side with foreign agencies, and we rarely had to wait more than a minute or two lifts. public toilets clean, and they were always well stocked with towels small single canvas (rather than paper or hot air dryers).

The pool and solarium are large enough that finding a comfortable lounge chair has never been a problem. However, the running track (or "path" for those of us over 60 years) is passed through the relaxation pool (if it became a sort of "obstacle course") and does not has completely around the boat.

Perhaps the unique feature of the ship "hardware" was a "Lawn Club". I must admit that the concept of negative pre-conceived (based on photographs and descriptions I've seen), may have clouded my expectations. But after spending a few minutes watching other passengers playing croquet, or bask in the sun, beautifully maintained natural grass, I realized that the photographs in this region Celebrity brochures and television commercials can not capture is a quiet serenity. I liked it!

Food

Since all the restaurants offer a variety of dining options, all the food assessment will affect not only your taste in addition to what is selected in the menu. This became clear as the Murano specialty restaurant on board the Eclipse. My wife ordered a filet mignon, while my cousin, Mike, was the chop. Both dishes were undoubtedly of this type we've ever tasted .... everywhere! On the other hand, the fish (Mediterranean Sea Bass), the girl of my cousin, Janet, and I ordered was the best fairs.

It has been more consistent meal was a specialty restaurant, the Tuscan grill. Although filet mignon was as good (we think) that the Murano (despite Tuscan Grille touts himself as a "steak house with an Italian touch"), all of our dishes were excellent in their own way.

In the specialty of the restaurant, quisine, we had a lot of laughter in sampling a wide variety of appetizers and unique, each described in the I-pod.

Dining Room, Moonlight Sonata offered a variety of dishes every night, that went from good to excellent, very few disappointments. We especially liked the restaurant Select was nice place away from strict two-seater is the most conventional cruise ships. And we always had to get a table for four by the window as we requested.

Service

A collection of cruise passengers from the dishes is so often based on their cabin they were, and as waiters / waitresses served their meals. So, at best, an assessment service that will be taken as a generalization based on limited personal experience on board.

Having carried out this part of the review (as to "cover my tail", if the reader has a different experience), I would say that my wife and I found the service excellent. Our cabin attendant (Violetta Rodriguez and David Campbell) was the best team we've had all the cruise (and we have taken many cruises). Dining staff were competent and professional in all restaurants. In addition, there were some nice 'touch' just as a greeting to welcome you on board of the house drinks and spritz "spray fresh after a long day of sightseeing. However, one of the things I most appreciated was the judicious use of public announcements. After the position of captain and weather updates, morning, an alarm system has been virtually silent for the rest of the day. There was no blaring ads in the next round of bingo jackpot, or a special "offers" jewelry.

If you are interested in such things, time and place of all onboard activities and events were highlighted in the daily calendar, was back in the cab last night. Learned to read when I was in first class, I have not lost a bit annoying messages.

Entertainment

If there was one area where my experience aboard Celebrity Eclipse was a disappointment for me (and my trip to the club), it was fun. More specifically, in the Broadway production (which I have seen countless times with other cruise ships) was the best fairs and completely uninspired, at worst. It is not to say that the artists were talented individuals (although I've seen better). It 's just to say I found these "song and dance" seems to be "boring," repetitive and in some ways a bit' amateurish. The exception to this was the last show (called "Eclipse"), which included some fantastic acrobatic performances, and brilliant, with special effects. variety shows (jugglers, magicians, comedians, etc.) are generally good.

The exhibition of glass blowing has been promoted well, in my opinion, slow and boring. Although speakers from Corning Glass Museum was obviously very good at their craft and dedicated to their work, I could not get too excited about spending nearly an hour to see a glass bowl made. Indeed, at some point during the show my wife turned to me and said, "What am I missing?". Ironically, the same show was highly recommended to us by one of our staff who saw the Solstice. So do not take my word for it. See for yourself.

Rural

Like all modern cruise ships, Celebrity Eclipse offers a wide range of accommodations, ranging from low-priced cabins (without windows), a luxury suite with huge personal butler. It 'clear that staying in a cabin spacious suite has a different experience than staying in a cabin much smaller than the interior, so, once again, I must preface my review of the cab to warn the reader that is based on my specific experience ( that may not apply to any other existing accommodation in Eclipse).

My wife and I decided (as we often do) a standard cabin midrange with balcony, there were more than enough for both of us. The decor was soft and comfortable. The linens were very comfortable and none of us had no trouble falling asleep. The bathroom was a nice size, but the shower was not an extension of pocket (which means you had to move your body around to get all washed). There was something less storage space than we would have preferred a cruise of 14 nights, but overall we were very pleased with our standard balcony cabin.

Conclusion

Dover take well over 30 cruises over the past 15 years we have been in business, my wife and I are always looking for something special when the new cruise ship is launched. And that's exactly what we do with the Celebrity Eclipse. On a scale of 1-10 (and 10 are unmatched is absolutely perfect in every way) will give us the overall grade from 8.5 to 9. We can not wait to book a new cruise Celebrity Silhouette (sister ship of the Eclipse), when it begins to travel round-trip Caribbean from Cape Liberty, New Jersey in 2011.
